Heli-Locknuts

DESCRIPTION | SPECIFICATION

`NAG’ Heli Locknuts are specialised self-locking nuts for critical and high temperature application, that produce locking torque on bolts passing through them and do not loosen during vibration, jerk or impact.  These Locknuts possess the unique property of retaining the same torque after repeated assemblies and dis-assemblies. Moreover, these nuts eliminate the use of spring washers, lock-wiring and other old types of locking systems thereby saving space and making the design simpler and more compact.

Basically, a HELI LOCKNUT is a standard shaped nut in any material, including all types of high tensile and corrosion resistant steel, into which a stainless steel `NAG’ FASTMAN screw lock insert is pre-assembled. The screw lock insert is retained inside the nut by the spring-like pressure of the high tensile stainless steel. The inside dimension of the nut conforms to standard thread specifications.

`NAG’ HELI LOCKNUTS are manufactured by us in various series of threads like Metric, BSW/BSF and UNC/UNF. We would also like to inform you that we have developed and supplied Valve Nuts, Impeller Nuts and Dome Nuts (pre-assembled with `NAG’ FASTMAN screw lock thread insert) for pump and valve manufacturers.

The enclosed brochure gives further technical details and the different sizes being manufactured by us.

HELI-LOCKNUT is a standard type nut body into which a locking type of STAINLESS STEEL Wire Thread Insert has been pre-assembled. The Thread Insert has one or more specially shaped grip coils which securely lock the mating bolt or stud in any desired position, free from unwind due to impact or vibration and increases thread strength.

Benefits :

Applied torque does not have to overcome thread friction due to imperfect thread form, almost all torque is used to stretch the bolt.

Greater loading for applied torque than ordinary nuts.

Maintain preload stretch in bolt beyond amplitude of unload vibrations.

Insert is flexible and compensates for lead and angle errors always present in mating threads.

Load is more evenly distributed over all engaged threads.

Can be repeatedly assembled and dis-assembled without loss of efficiency.

Advantages :

More efficient than locknuts with nylon inserts against heat etc.

Extremely close tolerence.

Increased load-bearing cpacity.

High Tensile stainless steel threads of hardness HRC 43.50.
